Metal Sheet Piling
Contractor Miami
Interlocking steel sheet piles for permanent seawalls, canal bulkheads, commercial waterfront, and flood-barrier construction. Bonded GC. Florida-registered PE. Engineer-stamped design on every project.
Miami-Dade · Broward · Palm Beach · FDEP · Army Corps Permit Fluency
What It Is
Structural Steel. Driven Deep. Built to Outlast.
Metal sheet piling uses interlocking hot-rolled steel sections driven continuously into the substrate to form a rigid wall. The interlocks create a continuous barrier with significant bending resistance — far beyond what vinyl or timber can carry.
It is the correct specification for high-load conditions: commercial waterfronts, large canal seawalls, marina bulkheads, flood protection structures, and any project where soil/water pressure exceeds residential-grade tolerances.
SFWMD and FDEP classify most South Florida canal and Intracoastal work as waters of the state. Metal sheet piling with proper coating is the standard specification for structures requiring 50+ year service life under South Florida’s sulfide-rich, saltwater-adjacent soils.

Where Metal Sheet Piling
Is the Right Call
When soil pressure, tidal variation, vessel impact, or regulatory requirements exceed what residential-grade materials can handle.
Permanent
Canal Seawalls
Replacement of failed timber or vinyl seawalls on Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach County canals. Continuous interlock eliminates the void-migration failure common in aging systems.
Commercial
Marina Bulkheads
Marinas and commercial docks require structural steel for vessel berthing loads, fuel dock impacts, and tidal cycling. PE-stamped steel design meets USACE and SFWMD requirements.
Waterfront
Waterfront Retaining Walls
Grade changes at waterfront properties along the Intracoastal or bay-front require engineered retaining systems. Steel sheet piling with tie-back anchors handles high surcharge loads.
Flood Protection
Flood Barrier Systems
Permanent flood perimeter barriers for commercial properties, HOA communities, and municipal infrastructure. Continuous steel interlock achieves near-zero seepage under hydrostatic head.
Federal / DOD
Federal & Military Waterfront
BAM holds an active DOD performance record (U.S. Army Reserve, Arcadia FL). SAM.gov registered and Miller Act bonded for federal waterfront contracts over $150K.
Temporary
Cofferdams & Excavation Support
Temporary steel sheet pile cofferdams for bridge repair, utility crossings, and infrastructure work in or adjacent to water. Sections extracted and reused after dewatering is complete.

Our Process
Assessment to
Final Inspection
One licensed GC manages every phase. One permit. One engineer of record. One closeout package.
Site Assessment & Soil Investigation
Licensed PE reviews existing conditions, performs or procures soil borings, and assesses tidal range, surcharge loads, and regulatory jurisdiction. FDEP, USACE, and county building requirements confirmed before design begins.
PE-Stamped Design & Section Selection
Structural PE calculates embedment depth, selects steel section (AZ, PZ, or combined wall), specifies coating system, and produces stamped drawings. Tie-back anchors, waler beams, and cap details included in the permit set.
Permit Procurement
BAM applies for and manages all permits: county building, FDEP Environmental Resource Permit (ERP), Army Corps Section 404/10 (navigable waters), and SFWMD where applicable. Owner does not interface with agencies.
Sheet Pile Installation
Coated steel sections driven by vibratory hammer or hydraulic press to specified embedment depth. Interlocks threaded continuously. Waler beams installed and tie-backs tensioned per PE specifications. Concrete cap poured to design grade.
Final Inspection & Closeout Package
PE certifies installation per stamped drawings. County final inspection obtained. FDEP/USACE as-built submitted where required. Closeout package delivered: PE letter, permit closeout, warranty, lien waiver, and all agency documentation.
Regulatory
Permits & Regulatory
Requirements in South Florida
Metal sheet piling in South Florida typically requires multiple permit layers. BAM manages all of them as the licensed GC and permit applicant.
Required for all seawall, bulkhead, and retaining wall work regardless of waterway type. BAM pulls and manages the permit through final inspection sign-off.
Environmental Resource Permit (ERP) required for work in or adjacent to waters of the state. Mitigation or turbidity controls may apply. BAM prepares and submits the ERP application.
Section 404 (dredge/fill) and Section 10 (navigable waters) permits required for work in jurisdictional waterways. BAM prepares NWP or Individual Permit applications and coordinates agency review.
Miami-Dade adds DERM (WASD) review for work near tidal canals and Biscayne Bay. Seawall cap elevations must meet NAVD88 +4.0 to +5.5 ft for coastal work. BAM has active permit history across all three county jurisdictions.

FAQ
Common Questions
When should I choose metal sheet piling over vinyl?
Metal sheet piling is the correct specification when lateral earth or water pressure exceeds residential-grade tolerances, when you need a 50+ year design life, when vessel berthing loads or high surcharge apply, or when regulatory agencies specify a structural system. Vinyl is appropriate for typical residential canal seawalls with low surcharge and shorter design life requirements. Our PE determines the right system based on soil borings and load analysis, not cost alone.
How long does the permitting process take?
For county-only permits (no FDEP or USACE), typical review is 4–10 weeks depending on the county and backlog. When FDEP ERP is required, add 60–90 days. Army Corps Individual Permits can run 6–18 months; Nationwide Permits are typically 45 days. BAM submits complete application packages and responds to agency RFIs within 5 business days to avoid delays. We give you a realistic permit timeline at the scoping stage before you commit to a project schedule.
What corrosion protection is required for South Florida saltwater environments?
South Florida’s combination of saltwater, high sulfate soils, and hydrogen sulfide in tidal canals accelerates steel corrosion significantly compared to inland applications. Our standard specification for marine environments combines hot-dip galvanizing (ASTM A123) with an epoxy coal tar topcoat in the splash zone and submerged zone. For projects requiring 60+ year service life, we add a sacrificial anode cathodic protection system. All specifications are documented in PE-stamped drawings and submitted with the permit application.
Does pile installation disturb neighbors or require access from the water?
Most South Florida seawall and bulkhead installation is performed from the land side using a vibratory hammer mounted on an excavator. No barge is required for typical canal widths. Vibratory installation is significantly quieter and lower vibration than impact driving, which protects adjacent structures and reduces neighbor impact. For wider waterways or projects requiring barge access, we coordinate marine contractor logistics. Pre-construction vibration monitoring is available for projects adjacent to sensitive structures.
Can Brick and Mortar handle both the structural and environmental permits?
Yes. BAM Brick and Mortar company is the GC and permit applicant for the county building permit. Our structural PE stamps the construction drawings. We coordinate and prepare the FDEP ERP application, respond to agency RFIs, and manage Army Corps coordination where navigable waters are involved. The owner signs the applications as the property owner, but BAM manages every submission, response, and inspection. You receive one contract, one point of contact, and one closeout package covering all permits.
